Who is the Holy Spirit?

For most Christians the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). The Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is celebrated on the day of Pentecost, this year on 12 June.

According to the biblical narrative (Acts 2:1-6) on that day while the Apostles were together “suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance…”

According to traditions and cultures there are various ways of describing the Holy Spirit, ranging from “a Person really distinct as such from the Father and the Son, God and consubstantial with the Father and the Son” (Roman Catholic) to “a peculiar effect of divine flatulence hissing into the ears of a few chosen of God” (Voltaire).

From an astroshamanic perspective the Holy Spirit is synonymous of Spirit Guide (see: http://astroshamanic.blogspot.com/2011/03/spirit-guide-and-core-multidimensional.html) and plays a most crucial role in the healing process. A Course in Miracles describes the Holy Spirit as “God’s answer to the ego” with “the task of undoing what the ego has made” (T79).

He is regarded as the mediator between illusion and reality, or fear and love, “the remaining communication link between God and His separated Sons” (MT89), “the part of the mind that lies between the ego and the spirit, mediating between them always in favour of the spirit” (T132), a healing force operating within our consciousness to guide toward an ecstatic perception of life.

According to the course the Holy Spirit “abides in the part of your mind that is part of the Christ Mind. He represents your Self and your Creator, Who are one. He speaks for God and also for you, being joined with both. And therefore it is He Who proves them one” (MT89).

The aim of the Holy Spirit is to help us release our painful attachment to the separated reality we believe to live in. In this respect his support as a Guide is crucial.

“You have set up this strange situation so that it is impossible to escape from it without a Guide Who does know what your reality is. The purpose of this Guide is merely to remind you of what you want. He is not attempting to force an alien will upon you. He is merely making every possible effort, within the limits you impose on Him, to re-establish your own will in your awareness” (T160).
